The elevated living area at this Bali villa is open on two sides, and cooled by natural breezes and ceiling fans. It features a coffee-coloured marble floor, and is equipped with a TV, DVD, quality sound system and a mini refrigerator.

The air-conditioned bedroom, complete with ceiling fan, is accessed by sliding glass doors on two sides. This bali villa room is exquisitely decorated and furnished, and the enticing king-size bed is canopied in dreamy diaphanous drapes.

The en-suite sumptuous bathroom appears to float upon a moat; this open-air pavilion is supported by pillars and characterised by a splendid Palimanan stone bathtub big enough for two, together with a rainshower, and a floating vanity unit with a sculptured terrazzo washbasin, plus a toilet. A gold Buddha statue rests in an alcove, ceiling fans keep this area cool, and blinds can be dropped for absolute privacy.

The pretty garden boasts a thatched ‘bale’ relaxation pavilion, which is cushioned with a large covered mattress. It faces the sunset and presides over the 6 x 4 metre private swimming pool. The sea view is delightful both from here and also from the raised living area. The pool deck is furnished with sunloungers and a sun umbrella, and there is also a circular dining table together with chairs, positioned outside.

Situated on the Bukit Peninsula, fifty metres above sea level on the cliffs that overhang Bingin beach, the property commands heart-stopping, spectacular views of the ocean and the southern regions of Bali. ‘Bukit’ is the Indonesian word for hill and the panorama from this elevation extends all the way up the west coast past Jimbaran, the airport, Kuta and Canggu, and inland to Bedugul. On a clear day, the awesome vista takes in all of the volcanoes from Mt Agung in the east, to Mt Bromo in Java. The property was designed by acclaimed architect Glenn Parker, and the gardens created by the famous landscape architect Made Wijaya. Complemented by flat green lawns, courtyards, terraces and a serene water garden, and lovingly furnished by its Jakarta-based owners, this Bali villa is composed of a series of pavilions, including the main residence, two guest pavilions, dining pavilion, family pavilion, Wantilan Lounge and Bale Bundar, most of which have adjoining verandahs or terraces. This style is based on the concept of the traditional Balinese family compound with a separate building or ‘balé’ for each function, and a licence to amend the purpose of each in accordance with the comforts of modern living. The estate also boasts a fitness centre, a children’s playground, 2 swimming pools and a large tennis court.

The formal Balinese architecture makes use of local materials, such as white Palimanan stone, teak wood and limestone, together with alang alang grass for the thatched roofs. The pavilions surrounding the main residence are modelled on the conventional Balinese ‘Wantilan’ (village meeting place), but the self-contained guest area, comprising the Bale Bundar and two rotunda gazebo bedrooms with thatched conical roofs, has an African influence.

Ecologically friendly and ever vigilant about preserving water consumption in this dry region of Bali, the estate employs a cost effective, natural treatment system. Waste water from the showers and wash basins in collected, broken down, processed and recycled for use in the garden.
